Hello,
I am Dr. Nwogu from Nigeria. A few weeks ago, I had my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India. I am obliged to the medical service provider – Indian Healthguru Group – for being so kind and supporting while arranging my treatment in India. This is a personal account of my battle so far with cancer. I was often seen with urination problem, till one day I realized that it was blood which was oozing out along with the urine. I was appalled to see the same. I immediately consulted a doctor. He after a biopsy detected cancerous tissue in the prostate while the other tests revealed higher than normal levels of PSA in my blood. After discussing various options with my urologist, we decided that Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy was best for me. However, the question appeared where I should go for my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy, since I really could see huge patient’s list in the hospital at my hometown, while others didn’t convince me to have my treatment. I then decided to search over the internet, luckily with few clicks I reached to a Medical consultant called Indian Healthguru in India. I then discussed the idea of having my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India, to which I was offered some good packages. The good offers given by the medical tourism company made things easy for me to decide my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India.
I booked my tickets and reached for my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India, where I was welcomed by an executive waiting at the airport. I was really happy to see how things were perfectly tailored for my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India. Right from my visit to the hospital to my treatment, everything was perfectly arranged. I am really impressed by my surgeon by his good success rate. The staff was very professional, courteous, and thorough. Radical retropubic prostatectomy can be performed in several different ways with several possible associated procedures. The most common approach is to make an incision in the skin between the umbilicus and the top of the pubic bone. Since initial description by Walsh, technical advancements have been made, and incisional length has decreased to 8-10cm (well below the belt-line). The pelvis is then explored and the important structures such as the urinary bladder, prostate, urethra, blood vessels, and nerves are identified. The prostate is removed from the urethra below and the bladder above, and the bladder and urethra are reconnected. The blood vessels leading to and from the prostate are then divided and tied off. Recovery typically is rapid; individuals are usually able to walk and eat within 24 hours after surgery. A catheter through the penis into the bladder is typically required for at least a week after surgery. A surgical drain is often left in the pelvis for several days to allow drainage of blood and other fluid. Additional components of the operation may include:
Lymphadenectomy - Prostate cancer often spreads to nearby lymph nodes in the early stages. Removal of select lymph nodes in the pelvis allows microscopic evaluation for evidence of cancer within these nodes. If cancer is found in the lymph nodes, different therapies may be offered
Nerve-sparing surgery - Select individuals will be eligible for nerve-sparing surgery. Nerve-sparing surgery attempts to protect the Cavernous nerves of penis nerves which control erection. These nerves run next to the prostate and may be destroyed during surgery, leading to impotence. If the cancer is clinically unlikely to have spread beyond the prostate, nerve-sparing surgery should be offered to minimize impotency and to speed up urinary control. An intraoperative electrical stimulation penile plethysmograph may be applied to assist the surgeon in identifying the difficult to see nerves.
My entire Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India went smooth, at the end, I am quite less at words, but thanking people who helped me during my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India. I therefore thank my doctor and his medical team, also to the medical consultant, Indian Healthguru Group in India, to making things possible for my Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy in India.
