But just because a person has Cataract, it does not have to be removed. Many people have Cataract but they do not have to get operated because it is not causing any hindrance in their regular activities. On the other hand, if an individual has blurred vision, which is making it difficult to read, or difficult in understanding the road signs while driving; is finding glare driving at night troublesome; or has difficulty following hobbies like reading, or knitting, it is time for that person to get a Cataract surgery.

So, if an individual has a Cataract that has resulted in blurred vision and it is posing a challenge in doing anything he or she wants and needs to do, it is time to think about Cataract surgery.

But it is also true that the more the Cataract is allowed to develop, the more it gets firmer and then it can be difficult to remove. Also, a delayed Cataract can lead to inflammation or increase in the intraocular pressure, which can further develop Glaucoma. So it is better to get it done with sooner and with modern surgical options, Cataract can be removed at any stage.

Traditional vs. Laser Cataract Surgery

If a person of a Cataract surgery then he/she has two options – Traditional Cataract Surgery or Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery. Each has its own benefits and both are considered to have safe outcomes but there are some minor differences:

In Laser surgery the surgeon can make more precise incision and in lesser time

Laser surgery gives more accuracy and higher degree of aptness as compared to Traditional surgery where a hand-help blade is used

The technology used in Laser surgery more advanced in nature

The final outcome is much more enhanced in Laser surgery

Traditional Cataract Surgery

Traditional cataract surgery, also called Phacoemulsification, the eye surgeon makes a small incision in the side of the cornea and then an instrument is inserted via this incision into the section behind the pupil. This is where the eye’s lens is located. The surgeon uses the microsurgical instrument to make a round opening in the lens capsule. After this, a special pen-shaped probe is inserted through that opening to apply sound waves to break up the cloudy centre of the lens. Then the broken-up pieces of the lens are suctioned out. After this, an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted to instead of the cloudy natural lens. The surgeon then fills the side walls of the corneal incision with a special liquid and self-seal post surgery, so usually stitches are not required.

Laser Cataract Surgery

In this, a camera or ultrasound imaging device is placed over the patient’s eye to get an idea of its surface and collate information about the lens. The device sends thorough information to a computer, which then programs the laser for the apt location, size and depth of the incisions. The surgeon uses the laser for making the corneal incision and the opening in the lens capsule. Energy from the laser may also be put to use to soften the Cataract. Then the ultrasound probe used in a Traditional Cataract surgery is implemented to break the lens into pieces and haul them out. The IOL is implanted. Similar to Traditional Cataract surgery, there is no need for stitches.

Schedule your Free Cataract Surgery Consultation in India

So if you are considering a Cataract surgery in India, then Indian Health Guru can be of the best assistance to you.
