Cosmetic Dentistry: Before-and-After

Want to Improve Your Smile?

Look at what braces, veneers, crowns, bridges, teeth whitening, gum reshaping, implants or even a complete dental makeover can do for your smile.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is a procedure wherein a tooth-colored resin is applied and hardened using a special light, which will ultimately “bond” the material to the tooth for improving the smile for a person. This is among the easiest and the least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures.  It can help to close gaps, repair chipped or cracked teeth, change the shape of teeth, or can also be used as a cosmetic alternative to silver amalgam fillings.

They are wafer-thin, custom-made shells which cover the front surface of the teeth. Veneers can be made from porcelain or resin composite and bonded to the front of the teeth, changing their shape, color, length or size. Compared to the crowns, they offer a conservative approach to change a tooth’s shape or color, but the process is not reversible.

Enamel Shaping

Also known as contouring, it is a quick and painless process to shape the natural teeth for improving its appearance. Generally it is used for correcting the small imperfections such as teeth that are slightly overcrowded or uneven teeth. The results can be seen immediately. Often the enamel shaping is combined with whitening, bonding or veneers.

A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” which is placed over a weak or a damaged tooth to improve its size, shape, strength, or appearance. Most crowns are made of metal; porcelain fused to resin, metal or ceramic and lasted for 5 to 15 years. Before a crown is seated, the existing tooth is filed down followed by the crown being cemented over it such that it fully encases the tooth. The three-quarter crowns and onlays cover the underlying tooth to a lesser extent.

Orthodontics (Braces)

Orthodontics or braces can correct the crooked or misaligned teeth. It can also improve the health and appearance of anyone’s smile including the adult or child. They work by applying steady pressure over time in order to slowly move the teeth into alignment. As the teeth move, the bony tooth socket changes the shape due to the applied pressure.

Teeth Whitening

Who doesn’t like a bright smile? A variety of teeth-whitening systems are available which include the over-the-counter gels, toothpastes and rinses, strips and trays, and the whitening agents obtained from a dentist. However, whitening isn’t for everyone. Instead it is ideal for people having healthy, unrestored teeth and gums. People with yellow tones to their teeth as opposed to the gray tones respond best to teeth whitening. Hence, talk to your dentist to find out whether whitening is right for you or not.

Gum Reshaping

It can improve a “gummy” smile in where the gum line appears uneven or in which the teeth appear too short. The excess bone tissue or a small amount of gum tissue will be removed and contoured to expose more of the teeth. Gum reshaping procedure can be done to one tooth to even the gum line, or to several teeth exposing a natural, broad smile.

Millions of Americans suffer tooth loss due to gum disease, tooth decay, or injury. Dental implants include replacing the tooth roots that are made of titanium which provide a strong foundation for the attachment of permanent or removable artificial teeth or crowns.

It is a removable replacement for the missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. There are two types of dentures- complete and partial. The complete one is used when all the teeth or missing while the partial is used when some of the natural teeth remain.

Bridges (fixed partial dentures)

A fixed permanent bridge will replace one or more teeth by placing the crowns on the teeth either side of the gap and attaching the artificial teeth to them. Then the bridge is cemented into place. A cantilever bridge is used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space while Maryland bonded bridges have porcelain teeth supported by a framework.

Smile Makeovers

It includes a combination of dental techniques to achieve a great smile. Cosmetic dentists can make a dramatic difference in a person’s smile and overall oral health.
